Up for sale is my rare antique 5 key Cocus French flute, stamped Rivet a Lyon on each section. This beautiful instrument is in excellent condition, with all original parts present. There are a couple of small cracks, (see photo 3) which were professionally repaired four years ago, and are still sound. The drown features a decorative lozenge, (see photo 11).
All pieces of the delicate key work are Hallmarked Solid Silver. The hallmarks are A (crescent) L and what appears to be a crab (see photo 7). They are all fully functional, with recently fitted new pads. This flute plays at A = 440Hz, with excellent intonation, with the integral tuning slide fully in, setting it apart from many Parisian flutes, which are tuned to A = 435 (Diapason Normal). The unaltered, crisp embouchure and tone holes result in a clear voiced, sweet tone, making this beautiful flute a wonderful player.Like all French flutes, this Rivet is easy to fill, and the higher notes are easily accessible. A very knowledgeable person has informed me that the A L Hallmarks are actually the initials of. Louis Joseph Léger, who was operating in La Couture Boussey between 1848 and 1869, and that the crab mark represents the Evreux office. The keys also feature a counter hallmark, termed a "bigorne". I can send additional photos of the hallmarks on request. Jean Michel Rivet bought in instruments made by builders in La Couture, but also from Gautrot in Paris.
